On a dark and damp Saturday afternoon the unbeaten (in the league anyway) 3rd XI traveled to table toppers North Kildare. With 8 of our players joining from the 2nd XI we had quick head count and were good to go. Till the oppo realised we had our change strip on of white which is their home colours…well done Poynts! A quick rummage around the bags for 11 dark tops and off we went.
NK has vast majority of possession in the first 10 mins but on Clontarf first entry of their NK D Andrew Poynter scored on his reverse past the rushing goalie. Similar happened till Ben Lacey popped up on the penalty spot flicking home past the keepers shoulder in to the top corner of the net. 2-0 up in 15 mins away from home having been in their circle twice. Happy days!
We upped our attacking game and passed the ball around well. Then a ball fell to Luke Abbott on the top of the D for him to rocket into the bottom corner (a serious finish from the young man!). So 3-0 up at half time, quick chat of keep it going lads.
Second half NK came out swinging with a goal rewording a lot of their pressure. Tarf upped their game with a classy deflection in the circle from Andrew Butler made the game dead. With 5 mins to go Butzy popped up on the end line with the ball and finished (outrageously) to put the icing on the cake.
A fantastic team performance winning 5-1 away from home, that puts us 3 points behind North Kildare at the top of the table and still unbeaten in the league.
