The Ladies 2s made their way through the Leinster Rugby traffic to face Old Alex 3s in Milltown on Saturday afternoon.
Old Alex came out of the gate strong, with a high tight press that was hard to get around. But we persevered and when we did get through, the break was there and we got our chances at the goal. Skipper Lauren buried a textbook short corner – a “McClean” straight shot from the top of the D into the bottom corner. Ayeisha McFarren couldn’t have saved it!
With a beautiful assist from Jen, 1-0 quickly turned to 2-0 with another goal by Lauren from a quick break up the centre of the pitch.
The second half was a tough battle. Our defence was truly put to the test. With all hands on deck defending the D, and some super goal keeping from Aoife, we held strong in the scraps for most of the half but Old Alex got a couple breaks of their own and equalised late in the 4th quarter.
A 2-2 draw was a disappointing but a fair result. A point on the board and looking forward to facing them at home.
