A crisp Saturday evening saw the women’s 4ths take on UCD at Mount Temple. With a couple of regulars missing, the 4ths were glad of strong support from from the 5ths.
UCD set a fast pace from the start which was maintained to the final whistle. Clontarf rose to the pace, and held them for the first 20 minutes. However, eventually UCD broke through, and scored two goals during a period of intense pressure towards the end of the first half.
Clontarf showed great resilience. They regrouped at half time, and managed to win more possession following the restart, putting together some nice moves and playing some quality hockey, despite some slippy sidelines.
UCD proved stronger, however, and their relentless swift passing through the midfield saw them in the ‘tarf D regularly. The defense – and goalie Sophia and sweeper Alice in particular – worked heroically, managing to keep the second half sheet clean until the very end, when UCD eventually scored an impressive third goal. Final score 3-0.
